About

About

Uzo speaks to youth, nonprofit organizations, corporate teams, churches, and sports programs about transforming adversity into fuel for purpose. His message is built on lived experiences, including winning a playoff-clinching game as underdogs against a powerhouse program; suffering the worst loss in SMU history (95–21); and choosing to rise the next week. He shares experiences of living in training camp barracks above horse stables in the CFL and becoming an All-Star, getting benched after years of success and earning his position back through humility and discipline. He recalls facing real-life obstacles off the field using the same mindset that wins 4th-and-1 goal-line battles. Uzo doesn’t speak from theory. He speaks from real struggle, real adversity, and real growth.

Stay Ready: Humility, Discipline & Earning Your Opportunity

Uzo's personality, human spirit, and vocal tone  speak to youth, particularly teens with low self esteem due to fatherlessness. He connects with audiences by going into their world and encouraging them to keep moving in and toward their purpose. He does not shy away from hard issues, but does so in a caring manner. Uzo was a member of the 1989 team that brought football back to The Hill" at Southern Methodist. The worse lost (95 to 21) was to the University of Houston. This season of back-to-back losses taught lessons on how to deal with humiliation and multiple failures. It laid a foundation that others can build on. The focus must not be on the losses, humiliation or pain. Losses and struggles can build strength.

Uzo was once benched after years of success. He returned stronger with greater recognition by learning how to Grind.

Football offers great opportunities to learn teamwork, but does not take away the requirement for INDIVIDUAL effort. We cannot blame others for what we must do: train and restrain our INNER compass.

The grind REQUIRES INDIVIDUAL Effort, RESPONSIBLE actions and adherence to a moral and ethical code. Coaches and teammates cannot enforce and do what we must do for ourselves: get ready, stay ready and be disciplined.
